I stopped in for a tenderloin this afternoon. It wasn't the greatest, but it wasn't the worst. On the plus side, they have sandwich buns big enough to cover the tenderloin and they're very quick with service. This leads me to believe they precook the tenderloin rather than cooked to order, which leads to the tenderloin drying out and losing flavor if you don't get it right out of the fryer. If I'm in the neighborhood again, I'd probably stop back in, but I wouldn't drive across town specifically for a visit.

1st time visiting. The fries were very good for fast food. The burger tasted similar to BBops but the combo was $3 more expensive The bacon on my burger was so thin it was see thru. I couldnt even taste it. It was nonexistent. Not bad but lil overpriced. I paid $9 for combo of burger fry & drink

I got the double meat jumbo and my wife got the chicken strip basket. Both 6 bucks. And I honestly could get better chicken strips fries and a double whopper from burger king. Food tasted like McDonald's but with a higher price point. Yuck!

I actually noticed this place a few times when I drove by but didn't think much of it. The place looks rundown and boring from the outside, looks like the place hasn't been updated in decades. Well then I thought, they've been in business for so many decades, they must be doing something right. So that led me to give their food a go. I went through the drive-thru and got their 1/4 pound burger and fries. Their menu looks like they offer some pretty tasty options, I'll probably find some time to return to sample their other items. The burger was very good! Honestly, if you blind folded me, I would think I just had a B-Bops burger, these burgers taste almost identical, and I love B-Bop burgers! The fries were great! Crispy outside and fluffy inside, these are some good fries!

Always fresh and fast but there is cheaper to be had. I like to frequent the local places but if you charge me twice what another burger joint charges me it is hard for me to justify continuing to go here. Staff are always friendly. Drive thru available. Outdoor seating available.

I've driven by this place tons of times since I moved to the Des Moines area in 1992, but whenever I'm in the area of Little John's it usually when I'm crunched on time. I was out doing some running around on the NE side yesterday and I decided to at least hit the drive through. Please be aware this is not a full service review. When I pulled up the menu board I was greeted nice enough and ordered wasn't really an issue. I kept it simple. A 1/4 lb mushroom burger, and order a breaded mushrooms, and a large Coke. What can I say...I was in a mushroom mood. ;) I though the prices seemed a little high ($10.04 for the three items), but I realize this is a mom and pop shop and they probably don't get deep discounts like the chains do. I don't mind paying a little more to support a local business. :) It might be me, but it was good, but I was unimpressed overall. The breaded mushrooms were very good (came with a small side of ranch). The oil was obviously clean, they were done to a golden brown, and hot right out of the fryer. Now the burger... This was my entree...so I may have been expecting too much because of the price of the meal. It tasted like a BK Whopper with the mushroom sauce that Hardee's uses. Now that's the best of two world's in fast food as far as I'm concerned for a mushroom and swiss fan so I was fine with that... I'll update this review with my experience with future visits, because I do plan on trying more items there. I'm at a three star currently, but it has the potential to move into the four star range.

I grew up around this place. Great memories as a kid and now making them with my wife and daughter. We love to walk over for some great burgers, fries and shakes! We especially love the root beer shake! Always fast, friendly, clean and we're always happy to go back!

We went to watch a basketball game at North and wanted some pre-game food. Not seeing much in the area, we happened to come across this place. The service was friendly and the chocolate shakes were very good--but the portions were pitiful. Imagine the "junior" hamburger buns that Hy-Vee sells--and imagine paying $2 to have a sandwich on one of them. The fries were straight cut and they had a few things most fast food places don't (e.g. fried mushrooms), but the food is nothing special.

Excellent onion rings they were crispyand done to perfection. The 1/4 burger was a decent burger with just the right amount of condiments. Great customer service was excellent and double checked my order to ensure it was correct.

This place is everything you want in fast food: It's delicious, hot, fast, inexpensive and the place is clean. Service was good, too.

Ordered a tenderloin combo. 8 dollars for a small tenderloin fry and drink. Holy over priced. It was totally mediocre for a tenderloin, but it's local I suppose?

Very good, as fast food goes. The onion rings, in particular, were delicious; real onions, nice crust/coating that didn't overwhelm the onion underneath. My wife and I both ate for under $10, which included a cheeseburger, a double cheeseburger, fries, onion rings and a soda.

The food here is terrible. The portions are too small for the price. Their largest burger is roughly the same price as a Burger King whopper but is the size of a McDonalds cheesburger (and about the same quality too I might add). The only bright spot here is the root beer shakes which are great, but are lacking in size.

Hey guy running the fryer. Cook the fish in separate oil from the fries.
